When celebrities are at the till

Diversification is a well-known strategy of companies to avoid putting all their eggs in the same basket and missing out on great business opportunities in lucrative markets. Well, it’s the same for celebrities. Once they’ve reached success in their core business, it is not uncommon to see them launch perfume or clothing lines, restaurants or even collaborate with brands to sell their products and make their capital grow.

TOP 5 clothing lines you never knew were created by a celebrity

Gimme 5 - March 22, 2017

It’s not unusual for artists to branch out. Fashion remains their main arena of choice. We’ve picked 5 brands launched by celebrities and we’re sure you didn’t even know.

1.Dash: The clothing store, which opened its doors in 2006, is entirely the work of the Kardashians. Indeed, Kim, Khloé and Kourtney are the individuals behind the company, which is very successful in the United States

2. Ivy Park: Launched by Beyonce in 2016, the clothing line got its name from the singer and Jay Z’ daughter, Blue Ivy. A sportswear line, Ivy Park already seems poised for success

3. William Rast: Keeping it rather low-key, singer-actor Justin Timberlake launched his denim line William Rast with childhood friend Trace Ayala

4. Material Girl: Definitely inspired by Madonna’s iconic fashion from the 80’s, Material Girl is a clothing line created by the Queen Of Pop herself alongside daughter Lourdes.

3 question to Guillaume Salmon, Public Relations for Colette

The 3 questions - March 22, 2017

As Colette celebrates its 20th anniversary, we got to talk to Guillaume Salmon. As a PR for the shop, he’s in charge of organizing events with the biggest stars on the planet.

Orange Pop: Has Colette always held in-doors events from the get-go?

Guillaume Salmon: Yes. Ever since its opening in 1997, the shop was already hosting events, signings, brand launchings, These kind of events have always been part of our shop’s DNA and they represent a great way for us to communicate on anything and everything we have to offer – through all the designers and artists we get to work with.

O. Pop: When you’re putting together events with the likes of Pharrell Williams or the Odd Future crew, how do you usually handle the influx of fans?

G.S.: Depending on the day and the time slot that are predefined, it is already known if there will be more or fewer people. As a result, security measures are taken accordingly and then we use barriers to manage the flux. Fans queue up in front of the store and we let them in in groups so that they can see the artists, take a photo, get something signed, have a look and eventually buy the store’s products. We are very careful not to have an unmanageable crowd in front of the store. It happened once, when Drake was launching a clothing collection and had come in person to the shop.

O. Pop: In general, what added value these kinds of events bring to the store?

G.S.: This is a common added value because these events also allow artists to leave the music niche, to touch new grounds. They also take advantage of the store’s image. Most of the time, it’s these artists or their managers who contact us, which speaks volume. For us, it makes it possible to attract another kind of clientele and of course generate sales, as it remains the heart of our business. But most of all, these events drum up buzz and communication around the store.

How to go incognito at your own in-store event?

The killer question - March 22, 2017

Through the years, Daft Punk has remained the best! Even when it comes to making an appearance at an event devoted to them, the dynamic duo found a way to do it differently. Last month, the prestigious Maxfield store in Los Angeles opened a pop-up store specially dedicated to the French musicians. At its launch, instead of showing up in their robot suit, Guy-Manuel de Homen-Christo and Thomas Bangalter decided to come to Maxfield in their everyday uniform, without a warning.

As a result, no one noticed them and the two were able to enjoy the event in complete peace. These guys are definitely out of this world.

In The Weeknd’s latest video, the guys haven’t forgotten to wear their helmets.

Ed Sheeran volunteers at a charity shop

Hashtag portrait - March 22, 2017

Everybody loves Ed Sheeran, he was voted the biggest male pop star on the planet by GQ magazine, he’s been ruling the charts all over the world with his new album, he is about to guest-star on the next season of Game Of Thrones … AND, his involvement with charity in England proves that he has a big heart. We love you, Ed <3

#DressLikeEd: In 2014, the singer started to get acquainted with charity shops in his small hometown of Framlingham, England, by sending several bags of clothes that belonged to him. An initiative that has inspired fans to make donations to similar stores.

#Break: In late August 2015, after selling nearly 6 million albums worldwide, Ed Sheeran was at the height of his glory. Yet the famous British singer-songwriter clearly didn’t let it go to his head. Instead of capitalizing on his success, he decided to take a break and volunteer in one of Framlingham’s charity shops.

#BridgetJones: As a volunteer at the charity shop, Ed Sheeran seems to have found a true vocation. Recently, for example, he gave away to Framlingham’s St Elizabeth Hospice a shirt his fans saw him wearing during his cameo in the movie Bridget Jones Baby, as well as 13 bags of clothes that belonged to him.

#GoT: While it has just been announced that Ed Sheeran will have a role in the next season of Game of Thrones, we have every reason to think that, within a few months, we’ll be able to find an armor, a coat of mail or an elf outfit at the singer’s favorite charity shop. To be continued!

Jack White’s the leader of the vinyl pack

Music - March 22, 2017

Singer, producer, actor; is there anything that Jack White can’t do? With the creation of his unique vinyl store, Third Man Records, we think you know the answer.  😉

Launched as a record label back in 2001, Third Man Records has expanded in a big way over the years, eventually opening its first vinyl store in 2009. Making music capital Nashville its home, Third Man Records was destined for success from the off.

Setting his store apart from the rest, Jack first created the novelties lounge, a space dedicated to retro contraptions and attractions. Want to try your hand at the dip n’ dunk photo booth, the wax-o-matic or the Third Man Record booth? In the lounge, anything is possible. 😉

Recently, the leader of The White Stripes has launched his most incredible project to date. Third Man Pressing is dedicated to vinyls, pressing new records in its on-site factory. You can see your favourite vinyls created before your eyes, and even get your hands on a limited edition record print. It might just be the biggest success for Jack so far; his fans waited in line for the opening days in advance!

Stories - March 22, 2017

If you didn’t get to see Zayn Malik on stage while he was in One Direction, maybe you’ll see him at his beauty salon.

Soon to be opened, it is a collaborative venture between Zayn, his mother and sister (how cute!). Taking to Instagram, Trisha Malik – the singer’s mom – announced that nail work, spray tans, hair and make up are some of the services which will be provided at the facility which will launch in their hometown of Bradford in the UK.

It is Zayn’s first foray outside of music after leaving One Direction for a solo career, and word is the Malik’s want this salon to be the first of many.

We’re sure many #Directioners will wait in line in the hope of seeing Gigi Hadid’s boyfriend stop by.

Want lips like Kylie’s? See you on Snapchat!

Stories - March 23, 2017

When she’s not busy shooting scenes for her reality show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, Kylie Jenner is quite the businesswoman.

Kim’s sister launched “Kylie Cosmetics” in 2016 and while she opened a pop-up store in early 2017 to advertise the brand, her place of choice to display everything it has to offer has always been Snapchat. As the celebrity with the most followers on the social media, it comes as no surprise that she would use that platform to premiere her latest eyeshadows, liners, blushes and of course these infamous lip glosses.

Step by step, the Kardashian-Jenner clan keep changing the face of pop-culture and the world seems to love every second of it.

Mark Wahlberg: how his comics will help him take over Hollywood

Stories - March 27, 2017

Rapper, actor producer, philanthropist, owner of a fast food chain… if you thought Mark Wahlberg’s plate was at full capacity, think again! The multitasker is embarking on a new venture: comics… but there’s a twist.

Mark is reportedly entering the comics world to develop a new story called « Alien Bounty Hunter », a story about a… you guessed it, a bounty hunter who is trying to survive in an alien-infested world.
Even if it’s in its early stages of production, it seems the movie star and Vault Comics are already thinking about Hollywood buying its rights to turn it into yet another comics-based movie franchise. Seeing how the film industry is eating up flicks by the likes of DC Comics and Marvel, this is once again a very smart move for Wahlberg.

The only thing missing is a book store for the businessman to exclusively sell his comics… but it’s not like this couldn’t materialize, after all it’s Mark Wahlberg we’re talking about.

Starboy Pop Up: Get ready for The Weeknd

Stories - March 28, 2017

What do you do when you are on tour but want to launch your clothing line? You do both, just like The Weeknd.

The singer, who is currently on his « Legend Of The Fall » Tour, unleashed the « Starboy Pop Up » which follows, more or less, the itinerary of the trek. He usually announces the different openings on his social media accounts a few days before their launch.

T-shirts, hoodies, denim jackets and hats are all available to buy at the shop. Though the main attraction is clothing, all his albums are still available to purchase at the store.

The great thing about the shop is that it gives the opportunity to any fan who couldn’t get to the merch at the show – or who simply couldn’t go to the show – to dress like their favorite artist

With the store’s official Twitter saying that we can expect more in a near future, don’t be surprised if everybody starts looking exactly like the Starboy
